Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women's Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.

Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.

Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.

Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties.

Position Summary

Campus Health Pharmacy and Student Stores Pharmacy dispense approximately 50,000 prescriptions per year and administer approximately 12,000 vaccines per year. The Pharmacist provides direct patient pharmaceutical care by dispensing prescriptions and performing distributional, clinical, educational, informational, and supervisory functions for patients at both its Campus Health Pharmacy and Student Stores Pharmacy locations. The Pharmacist safely and expertly prepares, administers, and documents vaccinations for UNC students, faculty, staff, and community. The Pharmacist provides optimal pharmaceutical services, facilitates safe medication use, meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements, and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the health-system.

The Pharmacist has frequent, daily contact with students, faculty, and staff of the university. The Pharmacist interacts with a variety of health care professionals within Campus Health (CH) including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, medical assistants, certified nurse assistants, physical therapists, athletic trainers, psychiatrists, psychologists, support staff, technology staff, and administrators. Eshelman School of Pharmacy Community Practice Residents and a Mental Health Fellow are hosted by the pharmacies and health center. In addition, Eshelman School of Pharmacy students participate in an Advanced Community Pharmacy and Introductory Community Pharmacy clinical rotations at the pharmacies.

The Pharmacist provides specialized information to clients, staff, faculty, and external contacts on a variety of matters relating to the operation and policies of the pharmacies and CH.

The Pharmacist attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings to discuss workflow, methods, and policy or procedural changes.

The Campus Health Pharmacy and Student Stores Pharmacy operational hours are 8 am until 6 pm, Monday through Friday. Student Stores Pharmacy is open on Saturday, 11 am until 3 pm. These hours may change based on patient needs. The temporary pharmacist works primarily during the months of August through May, 8 to 20 hours a week, depending upon business needs. Some additional hours may be necessary to complete patient-care needs, special projects and/or extemporaneous requests. Some evening, weekend, or holiday hours may be necessary. The Pharmacist is expected to report to work during periods when weather or other emergency situations adversely affect regular campus functions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of North Carolina.

Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy or PharmD degree required. Eligible for or maintains a current pharmacist license from the NC Board of Pharmacy.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

* Five (5) to eight (8) years of pharmacy experience in a community or ambulatory care environment is preferred.

* Eligibility for or maintains a current Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner license issued by the NC Board of Pharmacy is preferred.

* Successful completion of a certificate program in the administration of vaccines is preferred.

* Basic experience using pharmacy computer systems is required. Comprehensive knowledge and experience in

* using other computer software applications; e.g. word processing (Microsoft Word) and spreadsheet data entry

(Microsoft Excel).

* Knowledge of QS/1 Pharmacy software preferred.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Repetitive use of hands and fingers, e.g. use of a computer keyboard. Sitting or standing for long periods of time (4 to 8 hours). May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lb.), including boxes and equipment.

Stooping or kneeling, e.g. to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers. Reaching above shoulders, e.g. to remove and replace items on upper shelves. Walking up or down stairs or use of elevators to move to other areas of the facility. Normal range of hearing and vision to perform work and communicate. Physical ability to operate the equipment used for the job.

Keen attention to detail, accuracy, and organization is required to perform pharmacy-related tasks and responsibilities. Preciseness in completion of work tasks is essential. The consequence of a medication error can be patient injury and/or death.
